Consumer Quality

Carlingford’s low dry matter when immature produces a moderately firm / firm cooked texture. Combined with a distinctive flavour and freedom from after cooking blackening, Carlingford makes an excellent variety for a wide range of uses including - canning, punnet, salad, pre-packed immature and out of season new potatoes from second cropping. Uniformity of shape is a notable advantage over Maris Peer. If grown to maturity, Carlingford produces tubers of pre-packing quality whilst retaining its distinctive flavour.

Agronomic Features

Carlingford consistently gives significantly higher yields of even sized tubers compared with Maris Peer that is grown in the same way. Carlingford has the further advantage of far superior resistance to common scab, PVY and skin spot. Carlingford has good ability to initiate tubers even at low light levels. Carlingford produces good tuber numbers even under polythene with little or no reduction in tuber numbers. Carlingford is most suitable for early salad production.
